The synthesis engine and the user interface were completely revamped, with Japanese Vocaloids possessing a Japanese interface, as opposed to all versions being in English, as was the case with its predecessor. Due to time constraints, unlike the previous engine, it did not have a public beta test and instead bugs were patched as users reported them. Unlike the first engine, Vocaloid 2 based its synthesis on vocal samples, rather than analysis of the human voice. It is noteworthy for introducing the popular character Hatsune Miku.
